Skate 2!

The only competitor to the seemingly unstoppable series of Tony Hawk skateboarding games has finally spawned a sequel, but will Skate 2 be able to stay on top as the skateboarding king?

First Impressions: Whenever possible, we try to give our loyal website viewers the most video footage and most in depth unbiased reviews imaginable. Part of that development is our "initial impressions" where we offer up our first impressions of the title that we are playing.

This gives our website visitors more of clear understanding of what to first expect out of the game when they initially pop it into their consoles.

If you scroll to the bottom of the page in the Rent vs. Buy section of the review and do not see the "final impressions" assessment then it's safe to say that you are reading our initial impression of the game. Once the final impression is up, there will be no further video or review done to that particular title.

Final Impressions: The final impression is just that, our completed breakdown and overall thoughts on the game based off of our entire game playing time.

You can locate the final impressions assessment in the "Rent vs. Buy" section of the review (always located at the very end of all of our reviews). Here you will be able to read our final thoughts on the title and also see any potential grade changes that were made to the game as well (higher or lower). Should a grading change occur, it will be clearly noted with the previous grade, the new grade, and why the change occurred.

Although this approach is more time consuming and requires many more man hours, our entire goal has always been to provide the best and completely unbiased reviews possible and we feel that the inclusion of the Initial Impressions and Final Impressions sections will give you a better view of what to expect from a new game.

All that we ask in return is for you to continue to support Krakrabbit.com by visiting the site and letting others know about our cause. Together we can supply our fellow gamers with the most impartial information so they can make an informed decision on whether to buy or rent this particular title.

Rotting Away: It has been 5 years since the events of the last game and you have been spending those years hiding away, letting your career die for reasons unknown.

After San Vanelona is nearly wiped off of the map because of Earthquakes, the Mayor of the city drastically rebuilds the skate utopia and cracks down on the skaters who once ran wild in the city.

You then are tasked with bringing back the skaters who controlled your city and revitalizing your career once more.

Skate 1.5: Skate's gameplay is quite enjoyable and is a welcome departure from what you have been playing for the last 10 years in the Tony Hawk series. Both skate. and Skate 2 also feature an innovative view that is stationed just behind the back of your skateboard.

This camera view gives the game a much more intense feel to it and allows you to see things from an entirely new angle.

As for the actual gameplay, you won't find much here that wasn't in the in the first skate. You will skate through an urban environment performing a variety of tricks and moves, but nothing you haven't seen before.

That is where Skate 2's biggest flaw lies; in the rehashed gameplay. Skate 2 feels too much like the first title and the game simply doesn't feel like it should be passed off as a full retail sequel. Skate 2 feels more like a Skate 1.5 and doesn't add much to the title gameplay wise.

Wicked Spill: Skate 2 does feature one new mode that stands out though; the Hall of Meat and requires you to cause as much bodily harm to yourself as possible in a single botched jump.

You will be tasked with crashing, diving, and falling into as much as possible so as to break, rupture and cut everything and anything in your body.

The Hall of Meat does not add substantially to Skate 2, but it is a nice addition to the game as a time-killer. You can even upload your scores of damage online so others can see how well you injure yourself.

Rent vs. Buy: Skate 2 was a rather impressive game, but it failed to innovate or really add upon what was started in the original title, skate.

The visuals, gameplay and sound effects are essentially unchanged this time around, and while that is not necessarily a bad thing, there is no question that Skate 2 could have been a far more superior game then it is now.

If you were a fan of the first game, there is no problem in simply keeping what you already have or at the maximum renting this "sequel".
